Terms of Service

Last updated: October 2026

This is a working draft, not legal advice. These terms were written to reflect how The Marquee actually works. Have a lawyer review them before you launch.

1. What The Marquee is

The Marquee is a platform for professional speakers, trainers, and event organizers. Speakers create profiles, manage talks, run live sessions, and get listed in a public directory. Organizers search the directory, shortlist speakers, post events, and receive applications.

By creating an account or using any part of the site, you agree to these terms.

2. Your account

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account.

You can be a speaker, an organizer, or both. Your account type determines which screens you see, but the same login works for everything.

3. Subscription plans and billing

Three paid tiers are available:

  • StageBuilder is free and includes the talk library, live timer, pipeline, and up to 3 saved talks.
  • StagePro is $39/month or $390/year. It adds a public profile, booking page, inquiry inbox, feedback, testimonials, one-sheet PDF, matching, and a directory listing.
  • StageBoss is $79/month or $790/year. It adds external gig discovery, featured placement, listing stats, unlimited seats, an agency roster, and no Marquee branding on your public pages.

Payments are processed by Stripe. You can pay monthly or annually. Annual plans are billed once per year and include a discount equivalent to two months free.

4. The 14-day free trial

Every paid plan starts with a 14-day free trial. No card is required to start. During the trial you have full access to the plan you selected, including the directory listing if you chose StagePro.

When the trial ends, you will be asked to add a payment method to continue. If you do not, your account moves to the free StageBuilder plan. You keep your talks, pipeline, and session history. Features behind the paid plan, such as your public profile and directory listing, are hidden until you subscribe.

5. Cancellation and what happens after

You can cancel a paid subscription at any time from Settings. Cancelling stops future charges but does not refund the current billing period. You keep access to all paid features until the end of the period you already paid for.

When a paid subscription ends, your account moves to the free StageBuilder plan. Your data is not deleted. Your public profile and directory listing are hidden. You can resubscribe at any time to restore them.

If a payment fails, we will retry. If it keeps failing, your subscription will be canceled and your account will move to the free plan.

6. What speakers post

Speakers are responsible for the accuracy of their profiles, talk descriptions, speaking history, testimonials, and availability. You grant The Marquee a license to display this content on your profile and in the public directory.

Testimonials you mark as shareable may appear publicly with the name and title the person who wrote them provided. You are responsible for having permission to display a testimonial publicly.

7. What organizers post

Organizers are responsible for the accuracy of their organization details, contact information, and posted events. Approved organizations can publish events directly. The platform reserves the right to remove events that are misleading, fraudulent, or abusive.

8. Applications and events

Speakers can apply to events posted by organizers. Application limits depend on your plan: StageBuilder allows 2 per month, StagePro allows 10 per month, and StageBoss allows unlimited applications. Withdrawing an application does not refund the monthly count.

When an organizer selects a speaker, the speaker receives an email and an entry in their inquiry inbox. The platform does not take a commission on any booking that results.

9. Audience data

When an audience member scans a QR code to join a live session, The Marquee collects the name they enter and any additional fields the speaker chose to capture, such as email, organization, or role. It also collects their responses to polls, word clouds, and quizzes, and any feedback they leave after the session.

Audience members do not create accounts. Their data is visible to the speaker who ran the session and to platform administrators. The speaker can export this data as a CSV. Audience data is kept for the life of the speaker's account unless the audience member requests deletion.

An audience member can request that their data be deleted by emailing hello@themarqueehq.com.

10. Public directory and search engines

Published speaker profiles and the public directory are indexable by search engines. If you do not want your profile indexed, do not publish it, or pause your listing from Settings.

11. Third-party services

The Marquee uses Stripe for payment processing, Resend for email delivery, and Base44 for hosting. Your data is stored on Base44's servers. Payment details are handled by Stripe and are not stored on our servers.

12. Acceptable use

You will not use The Marquee to harass, spam, or mislead others, to post content that is illegal or infringes someone else's rights, or to scrape or reverse-engineer the platform. You will not share your account with others.

13. Limitation of liability

The Marquee is provided as is. We are not liable for lost bookings, missed sessions, or data loss beyond what the law requires. We are not a party to any agreement between a speaker and an organizer.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If we make a material change, we will notify active users by email. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
